HC3 Team Selection Programming Contest
The Programming Contest is Sunday TBD, 2021, 1pm to 5pm
in [Location TBD].
The Team Selection Meeting is right after the programming contest.
Two practice facilities are available for the Team Selection Programming
Contest:
-
HC3 Selection Contest Facility
Make an account and look for `problem lists' that are
past selection contests. This is a new system and currently
there is only one
in this system: harvard-sel2019.
- Harvard Prize I Contest
This is an old contest management system and you must
ask for an account if you want to use it.
Unless otherwise specified the Team Selection Programming Contest rules
are the same as the
ICPC Regional Contest Rules.
The information special to Team Selection Programming Contests is:
- The contest is 1-5pm on a Sunday afternoon, and is immediately
followed by the very important 5pm Team Selection Meeting
that lasts 30-45 minutes.
- The Selection Programming Contest is 4 hours long. During the first
hour you must work with paper and pencil only: you will not
be allowed to use a terminal until the beginning of the second hour.
You are a 1-person-team, and the problems are a bit easier than
in a 3-person-team contest.
- You will be given problems on paper at the beginning of the
contest.
- There is a 20 minute penalty for an incorrect submission, like
Regionals and World Finals.
- There is NO printer available during the contest.
- You may bring any printed material you like to the contest, but
you may NOT browse the web during the contest.
- The autojudge will return to you the judge's input/output of
the first failed test case for any incorrect submission, BUT
ONLY for the single easiest problem.
- You may work on demo problems during the contest, but these
will not count in the contest.
You can get help from the contest management during the contest
on any aspect of demo problems.
- The HELP page of the EPM facility is a complete user manual for the
facility.
The following concern the mechanics of the Team Selection Programming
Contest:
- You must get an EPM account before you come to the contest.
You should practice on at least one EPM demo or other problem
to familiarize yourself with EPM before the contest.
- You must bring a laptop to the contest to use as your terminal
during the contest. The laptop should must support
an internet browser and be able to connect to WiFi in Maxwell-Dworkin.
You must have a file editor on the laptop, but need not have
compilers or other tools.
Also there are the following important administrative matters:
- You must fill out the information form
(pdf)
during the first hour of the Programming Contest.
- If you participate in the Selection Programming Contest you should
stay for the Team Selection Meeting, unless you are sure your
preferences on your information form are correct and sufficient.
